Mouse in the House!
A downloadable game zine
Us mice are smarter than the bigfolk think. We know how to solve puzzles, keep ourselves clean, and take from right under their noses. But we must always be careful to not be caught. Bigfolk don’t tend to like the sight of us, and they have all sorts of nasty traps to get rid of us if they think we’re around. We live in their walls, building homes from the things they won’t miss or leave to waste, and borrow everything else.
We’ll give it back eventually, promise.
Inspired by stories of smallfolk like The Borrowers, Solar Opposites and Gulliver's Travels, mouse in the house! casts you as a group of mousefolk living in the floorboards and walls of the house you play it in, looking to find supplies to last the week and keep the family happy.
The game uses a dice pool system for checks; for everything going for you, add another dice to the pool, and beat a target number of 4+ results to do the thing you wanted to do. For example, do you have a bit of string? Add a d6 for climbing down a cabinet.
In between sessions, you look after the mouse family who don't go on adventures in play-by-post messages. Did you get enough supplies for the week, or will someone have to go without? And what are you getting up to under the floorboards?
